Thursday 12th July 2018 – Seniors Peter Swann Trophy

‘Success for Nicholas’

The Seniors met to compete for the Peter Swann Trophy which was presented to the club in 1978 by Peter Swann who was the Club Professional and Proprietor at the time. The competition, called a ‘Lynsome’, is unique to New Forest Golf Club.  It is a combination where competitors play an eighteen stokeplay round on the course and then using their score card, play matchplay in the clubhouse against drawn opponents until an eventual winner.

It was another very hot day on the course so members were delighted to play the matchplay part of the competition in the cooler environment within the clubhouse. The field of participants was soon reduced to the final pair of Barry Nicholas and Frank Lockley with Nicholas eventually taking the win after the first extra hole. Losing semi-finalists were Ray Hurst and Terry Jones.
