The course has been remeasured by Hampshire Golf’s course-rating team, as instructed by England Golf. This is a mandatory event and was last undertaken in 2017, with the exception of the Blue course, which was introduced in 2022 and given a ‘provisional rating’ at that time.

Slope Rating
The results of the re-rating has been quite a surprise, with the biggest change apparent on the Blue course.

The course-rating team have identifed the following, as the main reasons for the difference, since last rating;
– the course is measuring shorter (new laser technology is now being used).
– the green speed is measuring slower than that recorded in 2017.
– the Par value on the Blue has changed from 68 to 69, and the Red from 67 to 69.
– the Blue course had a provisional rating applied in 2022, which was based on the White tees.We have raised several queries with Hampshire golf about the new rating, but after weeks of to-ing and fro-ing, it has been checked and confirmed that the new reduced Slope Ratings are correct and will come into effect from tomorrow (Friday 1st November).

The reduction in Slope Rating means that the course is deemed ‘easier’ than it was previously rated, and this means that all ‘Course’ and ‘Playing’ Handicaps will drop by a number of strokes.

As we are now moving on to the Blue course, I have attached the new Handicap Tables for the Blue (winter) and Red Courses, for your info.

Your Handicap Index is unchanged and all course handicaps have been amended across our systems, so when you print your ‘general score’ or ‘competition labels’ from the PSi touch screen in the Clubhouse, the handicaps will be accurate.

Pars
Blue course has increased to a Par 69, with the 9th hole becoming a Par 5, in line with White and Yellow.
Red course has increased to a Par 69, with the 10th and 17th becoming Par 5’s, in line with White, Yellow and Blue.

Stroke Index
Please also note that the Stroke Index has changed across a couple of holes; 2nd, 13th, 15th and 18th on the Blues. 6th and 14th on the Reds. A sample scorecard is attached for your info.

Temporary scorecards, with all the changes applied, will be available from tomorrow, until our regular cards are received within the next couple of weeks.
