Last Sunday (26th July) saw the 2026 Club Championship contested over 36 holes.

To play 36 holes in one day is no mean feat, and to do so in championship conditions, with challenging weather, turns it into a true test of a golfer’s ability and resolve.

Over hard ground, in strong winds, hot conditions, and even a shower of rain, our new Club Champion was decided.

Congratulations to Henry Atkinson. To win the championship is an incredible achievement; to do so at the age of just 11 is an outstanding accomplishment. Henry shot a combined 147 to finish three shots ahead of former champion Josh Young, with Matthew Fredericks a further shot back in third.

Henry Atkinson also took home the 2026 Trigger Newman Trophy, awarded to the golfer with the best gross score in either round, after shooting an outstanding 70 in the opening round.

The Martin Tadgell Trophy, awarded to the golfer with the best nett score over both rounds, was claimed by Ian Brombley with an emphatic total of 137.

Finally, the Dougie Briggs Trophy for the best nett score in either round was won—and successfully retained—by last year’s winner, Gordon Bennett, who returned a superb nett 64 in the opening round.

We would like to congratulate everyone who took part on their performances and results. We are grateful for the continued support that the Championship continues to enjoy, sixty-seven years after its modern inception.

A huge thank you to Steve Worsley and BCT Groundworks, who once again generously sponsored the Club Championship prize table. We are extremely grateful for Steve’s continued support of the Club and of the Championship.
